Music club at TTC

Malawian people sing beautiful and strong, but they don’t have so many opportunities to learn music theory.
Yesterday I went to Music club at TTC (Teacher Training Collage). Every Tuesday we have different Social clubs and I decided to take part in Music club, because I was learning in Music school and I can teach them something form music theory, classical music, in general about music, because I love music! Last time I was teaching music theory and we were singing song.
This time students organized to bring speakers so that we can put the song and listen it very carefully! Malawians are very faithful and they believe in blessing :) I like it! So I decided to bring this song for Music club participants:
“Michael Jackson & Celine Dion - If you only believe”
We were singing and concentrating to sing right, latter I saw that everyone get tired to concentrate. This is not only Music club but also Dancing club and then I said: “Ok, let’s dance!”
You can’t describe it with words, but these last 10 or 15 minutes of dancing was amazing! There came students from other clubs and we all were dancing. When you are there you can feel joy and when you dance, you get even more energy! We are happy! ;)
Songs that we really liked:
“Shakira - Waka waka”
“Waving-Flag-Official-FIFA-World-CUP-2010”

IF YOU PUT CELLS UNDER A MICROSCOPE AND YOU PUT MUSIC ON. YOU'LL SEE THEM MOVE AND START TO DANCE! IT AFFECTS THE SOUL... I HEAR MUSIC IN EVERYTHING!

Bring Colours to our Children!

Letter from Africa!

My name is Laura I am from Latvia and right now I am working in Preschool project in Malawi – AFRICA! My job is to support, oversee, open and "save" 40 preschools in a large rural area. Majority of the preschools has buildings, but some are using Churches and some are studying outside under tree. Children don’t have too much education materials also it’s hard to find preschool where at least 5 children are wearing shoes, majority are with bare feet!
Now I started one part of my project which is "Bring Colours to our Children" for this the extra support is needed!
I will be grateful if you can sponsor my project in Africa with your charity or products. As well extra toys, music instruments, balls for football, vitamins – for improving nutrition of children, different markers, and colorful pencils will be great for preschools!
If you are interested in this sponsorship, please contact me.
Thank you, and if you have time, please forward my letter ;)

Youth club

 3rd of July Wednesday
Chilangoma - Youth Club -  Malawi

Today came small boy Frank and he was very happy, because yesterday I give a short presentation about HIV and AIDS in youth club, but today he had an exam in school and there was question: "What causes AIDS?" He knew the answer and he said: “Thank you”, for me, he was very happy! ;)

Preschools

Malawi Preschools

Many small beautiful faces are looking at me when I go inside the preschool. Children are curious they make big eyes or sometimes they start to cry, because they had never seen white skin. We are called “azungu” which in Chichewa’s language means “white”! Majority of the preschools has buildings, but some are using Churches and some are studying outside under tree.
Teacher for the preschool is chosen by the headman or headwomen of the community. Teachers are not paid for their job, it is just a way how communities are used to do so there is nothing much to change.
Not always schools are open and teachers are willing to teach. That is why we are suggesting for the head before he or she choose the teacher he should ask form all the community – is there a volunteer? In this case system can be more productive!
Now we are teaching the communities around the preschools how to run the school if they don’t have any sponsors (by making gardens so that they can feed the children, communicating with each other, fundraising for different things so that preschools have everything what is necessary).

Later on we are going to realize our plans for those preschools which are willing to work! Searching of support so that Preschools are materially supported and also bringing joy by teaching and spending time with teachers, children and any live creature that we meet in our way! We are learning from each other!
